We have been receiving a lot of phone calls regarding sharps disposal, since the recent changes Hamilton County Solid Waste Management have made. We have collaborated with NYSDOH, DEC, and Solid Waste Management to find answers for the residents. Residents who use sharps can disposal of them in the following ways:
- Sharps may be put into a hard plastic container, such as a laundry detergent bottle. The container must be sealed shut (taped) and must be clearly labeled SHARPS to be allowed in the Hamilton County Transfer Stations. It is extreme important the containers are sealed properly and clearly labeled sharps to prevent spread infectious disease.
- The Speculator Health Center will accept sharps, if there are in a hard plastic container that is sealed (taped shut), clearly labeled SHARPS, your name, address, and phone number are on the container.
- By law, all hospitals and nursing homes have to accept sharps. Please call the hospital or nursing home to ask about their requirements for sharps disposal before dropping them off.
